Internet for Everyone

One of Campus Party's missions is to bring Internet to every citizen, especially to those who haven't had the opportunity to experiment the advantages of the web. Activities are carried out in all of the Campus Party editions, focused on reducing the digital gap: from seminars to debate programmes of digital inclusion to "baptisms" in Internet.

Campus Party consolidated itself as a nucleus for digital inclusion for vulnerable populations through a programme supported by Telefonica and public institutions in countries where the event is carried out. The Digital Inclusion Programme has initiated over 30.000 people from Brazil, Colombia, Spain and Mexico in the use of information technologies since 2008.

There are still less favoured groups which, have never had contact with a computer and are unaware as to how technology could benefit their lives.  The first pillar of the programme “Digital Baptism” is directed at these groups.  People with low income, displaced persons, the retired, the disabled, the unemployed or with the employed whose jobs do not favour interaction with technology, learn to use a mouse, surf the net, or open an email account, and all this in a relaxed and practical environment, with a methodology that uses a tutorial on CD as a guide for self-learning, together with specially trained monitors.

Te second pillar with which we work, especially in Ibero-American countries, is with educators, whom do not necessarily in the “digital gap” themselves but act as multipliers within communities with this situation.  We offer them a workshop orientated at improving educational practice within the concept of e-learning 2.0.

Finally, the third pillar of the programme is the training in information technologies for micro, small and medium sized companies, which started with the 2009 edition of Campus Party Colombia.  In this case, and always within a methodology that favours practice and specific results, learning can go from using a computer to carrying out electronic transactions to improve productivity and to manage a costs model for their necessities and level of business.
